Which one fits

Consider Apple iPhone Duo if

  • You are on iOS and want a phone that opens into a 7.6-inch screen
  • You want 2TB of storage in a folding phone
  • You want a phone only 117.8 mm tall when closed, even at 84.1 mm across

Consider Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold if

  • You want a 5x optical telephoto on a folding phone
  • A published update window matters: Google states seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates
  • You want an inner screen close to square — 155.2 mm by 150.4 when open

Main tradeoffs

  • iOS 27, a 2TB storage tier and a 7.6-inch screen that opens landscape$1,999, two rear lenses with no dedicated telephoto, and a 254 g body 84.1 mm across closed
  • A dedicated 5x telephoto, $1,799 to start and seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates stated in writingAndroid rather than iOS, a 1TB ceiling, and a 155.2 mm tall body to hold closed

Two book-style foldables $200 apart, built around opposite ideas of what folding is for. The Duo opens sideways into a landscape screen from a short, wide body; the Pixel 10 Pro Fold opens into something close to a square from a tall, narrow one. One of them cannot be bought yet: the Duo takes pre-orders from 16 October 2026 and arrives on 23 October.

Before anything else: availability

Only one of these two can be bought today. Apple's dates for the Duo are 16 October 2026 for pre-orders and 23 October 2026 for availability. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is on sale now. That is a fact about timing and not about quality, but if you need a folding phone this month it decides the page on its own.

Overview

Two book-style foldables that fold inward along the long edge with a screen on the outside, $200 apart, and built around opposite ideas of what a folding phone is for. The Duo opens sideways into a landscape screen from a short, wide body. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold opens into something close to a square from a tall, narrow one. Pick up both closed and they do not feel like the same category of object.

Key differences

Four things decide it. The platform: iOS 27 against Android 16. The price: $1,999 against $1,799. The camera: two rear lenses on the Duo with no dedicated telephoto, against three on the Pixel with a 5x optical one. And the shape when folded: 117.8 mm tall by 84.1 wide against 155.2 by 76.3, which is the difference between a short block and a tall bar in your pocket.

The platform

The first question, and for most people the last one. The Duo runs iOS 27 and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold runs Android 16, which is Google's own build on Google's own phone. Neither is better and we do not say one is. What decides it is the watch on your wrist, the laptop on your desk, where your photos and messages already live and what you have already paid for. If you are inside one of these two already, the rest of this page is detail.

Price

$1,999 against $1,799 for the entry configuration, both at 256GB, both the maker's current list price. The $200 is real, unlike the ninety-nine cents separating other pairs in this category, and it is the Pixel's most straightforward argument. We do not count promotions, trade-in credit or financing, because those change weekly and are not a property of the phone.

The screen when it is open

Both open onto a much larger screen and they open in different directions, which matters more than the four tenths of an inch between them. The Duo's inner screen is 7.6 inches at 1878 by 2670 pixels, tall by wide — so it is considerably wider than it is tall, and the body agrees: unfolded, the Duo is 117.8 mm tall by 164.6 wide. The Pixel's is 8 inches at 2152 by 2076, almost exactly square, in a body that unfolds to 155.2 by 150.4 mm. A landscape panel suits video and two apps beside each other. A square one gives you a tall column in portrait and a wide one in landscape, so it is the more flexible of the two shapes and the less specialised. Neither is bigger in the way a diagonal measurement suggests. Both quote a 3000-nit peak, and Google additionally publishes an 1800-nit HDR figure; the pixel densities are 430 and 373 ppi.

The cover screen

Closed, these two are not the same kind of phone. The Duo's outer display is 5.4 inches at 2034 by 1398 and 460 ppi, in a body 117.8 mm tall and 84.1 wide — short and broad, which is what opening sideways leaves you holding. The Pixel's cover screen is 6.4 inches at 2364 by 1080, 408 ppi and 20:9, in a body 155.2 mm tall and 76.3 wide, which is roughly the proportions of an ordinary phone. The gap is a whole inch of diagonal, but the shape is the real difference: one of these behaves like a normal phone while shut and the other asks you to open it.

Cameras

Two architectures, and the clearest way to describe them is by what each has rather than by which is better. The Duo has two rear lenses: a 48MP Fusion Main at 26mm f/1.6, which also produces a 12MP optical-quality 2x telephoto at 52mm by cropping that same sensor, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide at 13mm f/2.2. The Pixel has three: a 48MP wide at f/1.70, a 10.5MP ultrawide with autofocus and Macro Focus at f/2.2, and a 10.8MP telephoto with OIS at f/3.1 and 5x optical, with Super Res Zoom to 20x. So the Pixel has a dedicated telephoto lens and reaches 5x optically where the Duo reaches 2x from a crop, and the Pixel's ultrawide can focus close enough for macro where the Duo's is not described that way. Megapixels are not a measure of quality and we do not read them as one. Both put a camera on the outside and another for the inner screen; on the Duo the inner one sits under the display and the outer one is a 12MP Center Stage camera.

Folded size and weight

The weights are effectively the same: 254 g for the Duo and 258 g for the Pixel, four grams apart. Unfolded they are both 5.2 mm thick, exactly. Folded the Duo is 11.3 mm and the Pixel 10.8 mm, half a millimetre apart. So thickness and weight, which separate most foldables, separate these two hardly at all — and then the footprint separates them completely. Folded, the Duo is 117.8 mm tall and 84.1 wide; the Pixel is 155.2 tall and 76.3 wide. The Duo is 37.4 mm shorter and 7.8 mm wider. Which of those goes into your pocket more happily is worth deciding from the numbers, because "smaller" describes neither of them.

Storage

Apple sells the Duo at 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The Pixel is sold in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, and Google also publishes the memory, 16GB, which Apple does not state for this phone. So the Duo's ceiling is one tier higher. Whether that is worth anything depends entirely on whether you would ever fill 1TB; for most people a higher ceiling is a number rather than a benefit.

Water and dust

Both are rated IP68 under IEC standard 60529. That is one and the same classification, and the only difference is in what each company chose to publish alongside it: Apple documents a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes, and Google documents the standard without a depth. We are not turning that into a claim that one survives more water than the other, because nothing published supports it. Neither is a diving phone, and a folding hinge is not something either maker invites you to test.

Battery

We are not comparing these as runtimes, because no test behind the numbers is shared. Apple publishes typical use up to 24 hours, video playback up to 44 hours on the outer display and up to 31 on the inner, and streamed video up to 37 hours outer and up to 26 inner. Google publishes a 24-plus-hour battery life estimate, up to 84 hours with Extreme Battery Saver, and a typical capacity of 5015 mAh. A capacity is not a runtime and we do not use it as one, and Apple's 44 hours is a single screen playing local video. Those figures belong on each phone's own page, where neither is standing beside a number it cannot be measured against.

Charging

Apple quotes up to 50% in around 20 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter, with MagSafe and Qi2 wireless up to 25W. Google quotes up to 50% in about 30 minutes with a 30W USB-C PPS charger or higher, with Pixelsnap wireless charging, Qi2-certified, up to 15W. Different adapters at different wattages behind each claim, so these are two statements rather than a measured result, and we do not name a faster one. The wireless ceilings, 25W against 15W, are the one pair of numbers here that describe the same thing.

Updates

The clearest asymmetry on the page, and only as far as what is published. Google states seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates for this phone in writing, as a commitment rather than a record. Apple publishes no equivalent minimum for the iPhone Duo in the sources we use, so our software support field for it is empty. That is a gap in publication and not evidence of a shorter life — Apple's record of supporting old iPhones is long, it is simply not a commitment you can read. If a written update window is part of what you are buying, only one of these two gives you one.

Unlocking

This one runs in a single direction. The Duo uses Touch ID in the side button rather than Face ID, which Apple documents, and which is a change if you are coming from a recent iPhone. We hold no equivalent documented statement about how the Pixel 10 Pro Fold unlocks, so there is no comparison to draw — only the Apple fact, on its own.

Which one may fit you better

Consider the iPhone Duo if you are already on iOS, if you want a 2TB tier, if a landscape screen when open is the shape you would actually use, or if a phone 117.8 mm tall closed suits you better than a taller one. Consider the Pixel 10 Pro Fold if you are on Android or willing to be, if $200 less matters, if you want a dedicated 5x telephoto and an ultrawide that focuses close, if a near-square inner screen is the more flexible shape for you, or if you want a written seven-year update commitment.

Important considerations

Availability is the first filter: one of these cannot be bought until 23 October 2026. After that, the platform is the choice you cannot undo cheaply, because it reaches your watch, your tablet and every subscription on the account. The folded footprint is the difference you will feel every day and the one least visible in photographs. And weight, thickness and water resistance — the things that usually separate foldables — barely separate these two at all. We are paid nothing either way here, and both links go to the maker's own store.
